HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — Patrick & Henry Community College (P&HCC) is among five community colleges awarded a Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission (TRRC) grant to bolster workforce training programs.
P&HCC will use its over $129,000 grant to expand electrician training through a mobile training lab initiative.
The college has seen significant growth in employer demand and student enrollment in building trades programs over the past two years, according to a news release.
With this funding, P&HCC says it aims to address transportation barriers by bringing training directly to underserved areas and facilities.
The mobile lab will be equipped to deliver expanded electrician training and offer Greenlee/NC3 certifications.
It will serve multiple locations, including P&HCC’s Patrick County site, The Franklin Center, and the Henry County Adult Detention Center.
Incarcerated individuals at the adult detention center will have an opportunity to earn certifications that can help them secure employment upon reentry.
Students participating in the program can earn up to 11 industry-recognized certifications.
