
HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A Henry County man was taken into custody after firing a gun and barricading himself inside a home on January 29.
Deputies responded to the 500 block of Lakewood Trail at around 4:20 p.m. after receiving a report of shots fired.
Upon arrival, they spoke with a man who said he was discussing Brightspeed service with a client when he heard a gunshot and a projectile “whizz” past his head.
The man told rbs news now at the scene that he recorded the suspect, who he believed to be armed with a rifle, walk into a nearby home.
Deputies said when they tried to make contact, the suspect refused to exit and barricaded himself inside the home.
After more than an hour and a half of negotiations, the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Michael Jamel Holland of Lakewood Trail, surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without further incident.
Holland was already wanted on other charges before this incident, according to Henry County Sheriff Wayne Davis.
He now faces multiple charges, including:
- Aggravated malicious wounding (felony)
- Brandishing a firearm (misdemeanor)
- Obstruction of justice (misdemeanor)
- Two counts of probation violation (felony and misdemeanor)
- Resisting an officer of the court (Henry County)
- Resisting an officer of the court (City of Martinsville)
Following his arrest, authorities executed a search warrant at his residence, where they said they recovered a high-powered air rifle and suspected narcotics.
These items will be sent to the department of forensic science for analysis.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
Holland is currently being held at the Henry County Adult Detention Center without bond.
The investigation remains ongoing.
