RIDGEWAY, Va. (rbs news now) — The highly anticipated opening of Sugamama’s Catering has brought new life to a beloved Ridgeway location.

The business, owned by Brenda Moore Barksdale, officially opened its doors on February 7 with a ribbon-cutting hosted by the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce.

Located at 821 Main Street in the former Ridgeway Drive-Inn, Sugamama’s Catering offers both walk-up to-go orders and full catering services.

The business will operate Friday through Sunday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. with hours expanding later.

Barksdale was interviewed by rbs news now in September about her plans for the restaurant and the story received over 70,000 views—a testament to the excitement surrounding the opening.

“It’s been a venture and a lot of hard work and a lot of hard hours, but finally, we are here exactly where I wanted to be,” Barksdale said.

The location holds special meaning for the community, and for Barksdale herself.

“It’s a staple in the community. I grew up as a kid coming here to the Ridgeway Drive-Inn getting those hamburgers and hot dogs. It did hurt the town when it left, but it’s back! Sugamama’s is here.”

Sugamama’s menu includes classic favorites such as cheeseburgers, fried chicken, and smothered turkey wings, along with sides like macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and onion rings. Desserts include red velvet cake, strawberry crunch cake, and Biscoff cake.

Barksdale attributes her success to her passion for cooking.

“I think that with my cooking, it’s just that I cook with love. I enjoy cooking. Cooking is therapy for me. I just get in the kitchen and I create magic, I just assume. I like to cook.”
