HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — The Martinsville-Henry County SPCA will undergo renovations and repairs in mid-March, focusing on improvements to the animal housing areas.
The project, expected to take approximately 27 weeks, aims to bring the shelter up to top operating standards.
According to a news release, the updates will enhance housing conditions for animals, and improve the experience for visitors.
Renovations will include expanding isolation and quarantine space, replacing rusting doors and fixtures, painting, and re-sealing floors.
Due to the construction, the SPCA will significantly reduce animal intakes, particularly for dogs, throughout the renovation period, the release said.
During the renovations, residents who find a stray animal are encouraged to check with neighbors and social media for missing pet reports.
Stray animals should be reported to dispatch at 276-638-8751.
Lost and found animals will continue to be posted on the SPCA’s social media pages.
For those looking to surrender a pet, the SPCA will maintain a waiting list for available space, the release said.
Residents needing immediate surrender services will be directed to animal shelters in Martinsville City or Henry County.
The SPCA will provide updates on the renovation progress and plans to resume full operations once the work is complete.
