HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A Martinsville woman has been charged with malicious wounding following a stabbing incident on February 23.

Around 7:40 p.m., Henry County deputies responded to an apartment in the 1500 block of Grandview Road after receiving reports of a stabbing.

Upon arrival, deputies said they encountered June Yvonne Mitchell, 62, and found blood and several bladed weapons inside the residence.

Shortly after, Robert Thomas arrived at SOVAH Health in Martinsville with a stab wound to his abdomen.

Thomas told medical staff that Mitchell had stabbed him inside the apartment, according to authorities.

Investigators said the incident began as an argument between Mitchell and Thomas, escalating into a physical altercation.

During the confrontation, Mitchell produced a knife and stabbed Thomas once, investigators said.

Mitchell was detained at the scene and she is being held at the Henry County Adult Detention Center with no bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
