ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. (rbs news now) — One person was killed, and another was airlifted following a head-on dirt bike crash in Rockingham County.

It happened in the 200 block of Roundhouse Road near Friendly Road on March 8 around 5 p.m.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, 42-year-old Samuel Joseph Farthing of Eden, N.C., was going east on Roundhouse Road on a 2002 Yamaha dirt bike when he crossed the centerline

Farthing collided head-on with a 2002 Honda dirt bike operated by 40-year-old Timothy Glenn Foster, also of Eden.

The Draper Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene, where Rockingham County EMS was already performing CPR on Farthing and attending to Foster.

Due to the severity of the accident, emergency crews requested a medical helicopter.

Fire personnel established a landing zone for Wake Forest Air Care 3, which transported Foster to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem with serious, life-threatening injuries.

Farthing succumbed to his injuries at the scene, according to firefighters.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
