HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A bomb threat made by a preschool student at Mt. Olivet Elementary on March 21, was determined to be not credible.

Henry County Public Schools officials said staff immediately followed established security protocols after being made aware of the threat.

A shelter-in-place was implemented while classes continued as normal.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene with explosive-detection canines and conducted a search of the school property.

No explosive devices or credible threats were found.

“In light of recent school-related incidents across the country, we understand heightened concerns about student safety. Please be assured that Henry County Public Schools and the Sheriff’s Office take all potential threats seriously and act swiftly to ensure a secure learning environment,” said Captain Sandy Hines of the Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division.

Sheriff Wayne Davis said the incident was handled with an abundance of caution despite no immediate danger being detected.

“We encourage parents and guardians to continue discussing with their children the importance of reporting any suspicious activity or concerning information to a trusted adult,” Hines added. “If students become aware of a potential safety issue, they should immediately notify school administration or the school resource officer so that appropriate action can be taken.”

School officials and authorities said that the safety and well-being of students and staff remains their highest priority.
