RIDGEWAY, Va. (rbs news now) — Firefighters quickly contained a blaze in a mobile home on Shady Rest Court in Ridgeway on March 22.

The fire started around 12:20 p.m. in the kitchen area and spread underneath the home.

Ridgeway Fire Chief A.J. Goins credited a quick response from firefighters and a timely 9-1-1 call from a resident for keeping the fire from spreading further.

“If the fire has enough oxygen and fuel, it can spread quickly, often engulfing the entire mobile home in as little as 5 to 30 minutes,” Goins explained.

No one was inside the home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

The Horsepasture Volunteer Fire Department, Henry County Department of Public Safety, and Virginia State Police also responded and provided assistance.

Goins praised the large turnout of volunteer firefighters, especially for a Saturday afternoon.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The fire chief reminded residents that they can request free smoke alarms from public safety by calling 276-634-4660 or online here.
