
HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — Henry County Public Schools has announced the appointment of Valeria Clark Edwards to the Henry County School Board.
Edwards will serve as the representative for the Horsepasture District.
A retired educator, Edwards spent 28 years working in Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools in roles including kindergarten teacher, primary reading teacher, assistant principal, and school bus driver.
She also served as an adjunct professor at Winston-Salem State University.
In addition to her educational experience, Edwards has been involved with the Henry County Board of Elections for the past three years.
She is an active member of the Martinsville-Henry County NAACP, the WSSU Alumni Chapter, and the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Incorporated.
Her contributions have earned her multiple accolades, including the Outstanding Volunteer Service Award from the NAACP, according to a news release.
“We had several fantastic candidates for the seat, which we could not have gone wrong with any of them. We are excited to welcome Valeria Edwards to the School Board,” said Board Chair Teddy Martin. “Her extensive experience in education and unwavering commitment to community service will be instrumental in advancing our mission to provide the best educational opportunities for all students in Henry County.”
Edwards, who holds degrees from Forsyth Technical Institute, Winston-Salem State University, and North Carolina A&T State University, will officially assume her position on April 3.
