ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. (rbs news now) — A JROTC instructor at Dalton McMichael High School has resigned following an investigation into allegations that surfaced last month.

On March 21, the district placed Major Andrew Mercer, a JROTC teacher, and Gloria Holloway, a custodian and bus driver, on administrative leave after allegations were reported to school officials.

The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office was notified and launched an investigation into the matter.

Following a review, the sheriff’s office notified the district that no criminal charges would be filed against Mercer due to insufficient evidence.

In a meeting with school officials on April 10, Mercer submitted his resignation, effective immediately.

The district confirmed his resignation was accepted and that he is no longer employed with Rockingham County Schools.

Meanwhile, the investigation involving Holloway remains active, according to the sheriff’s office.

Holloway was officially separated from the school district on March 27.
