
HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A Bassett man was arrested on April 9 after fleeing from deputies in Henry County.
Henry County deputies with the Drug Interdiction Unit made contact with a suspicious vehicle near the intersection of Blackberry Road and Stones Dairy Road around 6 p.m.
While speaking with the vehicle’s occupants, deputies said they identified Christopher Roger Riggs, 29, of Oliver Drive, Bassett, who was found to have an active felony warrant for failure to appear.
The underlying charge on the warrant was violent felon in possession of a firearm.
As deputies tried to take Riggs into custody, he resisted arrest and fled on foot, according to authorities.
K9 Zajo and his handler pursued Riggs, and the dog apprehended him a short distance away.
Riggs was transported to the Henry County Adult Detention Center, where he is currently being held without bond.
He is facing the following charges:
- Failure to Appear in Court for a Felony Offense (felony)
- Assault on Law Enforcement (felony)
- Falsely Identifying Himself to Law Enforcement (felony)
- Resisting Arrest (misdemeanor)
- Contempt of Court (misdemeanor)
- Violation of Conditions of Release (misdemeanor)
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office said the incident remains under investigation.
