Around 2:20 p.m., the sheriff’s office drug interdiction unit conducted a traffic stop in the 1000 block of Crestridge Road in Bassett.
The driver, 51-year-old Darian Rayburn Tatum of Critz, was found to have an outstanding warrant from Martinsville for attempting to defeat a drug or alcohol screening test.
Authorities said the passenger initially provided a false name but was later identified as 31-year-old Stacey Rea Biggs, also of Critz.
Biggs was wanted in Patrick County for failure to appear and in Henry County on a third or subsequent offense for selling a schedule I/II controlled substance.
Deputies deployed K-9 Zajo, who alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle, according to deputies.
Deputies said a search turned up a 9mm SCCY handgun, multiple bags of suspected meth and fentanyl, digital scales, packaging materials, and $913 in cash.
The suspected narcotics have been submitted to the Virginia Department of Forensic Science for testing.
As a result, Tatum faces several charges:
- Driving while license revoked
- Possession of a schedule I/II drug while possessing a firearm
- Possession with intent to distribute a schedule I/II drug
- Possession of a firearm by a convicted non-violent felon
- Possession of a concealed weapon by a convicted felon
Biggs has been charged with possession with intent to distribute a schedule I/II drug and falsely identifying oneself to law enforcement.
Both were arrested without incident and transported to the Henry County Adult Detention Center, where they are being held without bond.
