HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A man has been arrested and charged after attacking a firefighter during a brush fire incident in Henry County on April 19.
According to Henry County Sheriff Wayne Davis, firefighters from the Dyers Store Volunteer Fire Department were responding to a brush fire on Lewis Road when they encountered 28-year-old Corey Taylor at the scene.
Firefighters asked Taylor to turn down the volume of his radio so they could hear emergency communications over their dispatch radios.
Sheriff Davis said Taylor initially complied but then turned the radio back up, prompting firefighters to ask him again to lower the volume.
At that point, Taylor assaulted one of the firefighters, striking the individual in the head and face, the sheriff said.
The firefighter was transported to a local emergency room for treatment.
Taylor was arrested at the scene and faces charges of public intoxication and felony assault on a firefighter.
The investigation is ongoing.
