
HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — Three people, including a Virginia State Police trooper, were injured in crash that occurred in Henry County on April 20.
The crash happened at around 9 p.m. on the southbound side of William F. Stone Highway, two-tenths of a mile south of Dillons Fork Road.
According to state police, Trooper M.L. Gravely had stopped in the right travel lane with emergency lights activated to assist a disabled motorist when the incident occurred.
Police said a 2013 Toyota Highlander, going southbound in the right lane, struck the rear of the parked patrol vehicle.
Trooper Gravely was not inside the patrol vehicle at the time of the crash.
However, both Gravely and the driver of the disabled vehicle sustained minor injuries after diving over a guardrail to avoid being hit.
Trooper Gravely was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
The driver of the Highlander, 58-year-old William J. Likins of Oakland, Maryland, was wearing a seatbelt and also sustained injuries.
He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Likins has been charged with reckless driving, according to police.
The crash remains under investigation.
