FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — An 82-year-old man died in a single-vehicle crash on April 28 in Franklin County.

The crash occurred at around 9:28 p.m. along Franklin Turnpike, one-tenth of a mile east of Byrds Mill Road.

According to Virginia State Police, a 1991 Chevrolet S-10 was going east when it ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree.

The driver, identified as William Page Thompson of Ferrum, was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene, authorities said.

The crash remains under investigation.
