MARTINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — A Martinsville man has been arrested in connection with a homicide on Ridge Road.

Martinsville Police said Jermaine Dominique Finney, 36, was arrested on April 30 and charged with concealing or transporting a dead body, a Class 6 felony.

Finney is currently being held without bond at the Martinsville City Jail.

Police say additional charges and arrests are expected as the investigation continues.

The case began when authorities found James Baldwin Jr.’s body lying on the shoulder of Lee’s Ridge Road in Henry County on April 29 after getting a call from a passerby.

Investigators determined that the homicide had occurred at a residence on Ridge Road in Martinsville after executing a search warrant.

Martinsville Police are leading the investigation with ongoing support from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — A man found dead along a roadside on April 29 in Henry County was killed inside a residence, and a vehicle connected to the case has been found.

At around 7:30 a.m., authorities received a call reporting a body in the 500 block of Lee’s Ridge Road.

Henry County Public Safety and the Henry County Sheriff’s Office arrived and confirmed the man was deceased.

The victim, identified as 34-year-old James Baldwin Jr. of Stultz Road in Martinsville, was found lying on the shoulder of the road and had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, according to Henry County Sheriff Wayne Davis.

His body was transported to the medical examiner’s office for a forensic examination.

Investigators executed a search warrant at a residence in the 1100 block of Ridge Road in Martinsville.

Martinsville Police Chief Rob Fincher said evidence collected from the home confirmed that the homicide occurred inside the residence.

As the investigation developed, jurisdiction of the case shifted to the Martinsville Police Department, which is now the lead investigative agency.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office continues to assist.

Chief Fincher said several persons of interest are being interviewed but their names are not being released at this time.

Investigators located a gold 2022 Chevrolet Trax with Virginia license plate TGB-2200 at a Franklin County business that is believed to be connected to the case.

HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — Authorities are investigating the death of a man whose body was found on April 29 with multiple gunshot wounds along a roadway in Henry County.

Authorities received a call at around 7:30 a.m. from a passerby who spotted the body in the 500 block of Lee’s Ridge Road.

Emergency responders and deputies arrived to find the man, described by Henry County Sheriff Wayne Davis during a news conference on April 29 as a Black male, deceased on the shoulder of the road adjacent to the pavement.

Sheriff Davis said they believe the body was dropped off sometime after dark on April 28 night and discovered before daylight on April 29.

The victim’s identity has not been released pending confirmation by the medical examiner’s office, where the body has been transported for autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
