HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — Martinsville City Public Schools celebrated 24 high-achieving seniors during the annual Superintendent’s Breakfast, held at Chatmoss Country Club on May 16.

The event recognized members of the Martinsville High School Class of 2025 who earned a cumulative grade point average of 4.0 or higher.

Each honoree received a graduation cord symbolizing their academic excellence.

This year’s keynote speaker was MHS alumnus Luis Romero, Class of 2017, former News Director at BTW21 and founder of rbs news now.

Addressing the students, Romero spoke about his own path through Martinsville’s school system, the importance of remembering one’s roots, remaining open to new directions, and engaging in both community and campus life.

“You are part of the most successful group of students Martinsville has seen,” Romero said. “Your potential for greatness is only limited by you.”

Several school board and city council members joined families and faculty in recognizing the students’ achievements.

Some honorees were unable to attend due to a conflict with the Governor’s School schedule.

“The beautiful thing about education … is that no one can ever take it away from you,” Romero added. “It makes you stronger, not just for yourself, but for your family, your friends, and your entire community.”
