AXTON, Va. (rbs news now) — A man was airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries following a stabbing in Henry County.

Deputies were called to the 1600 block of Birchwood Road in Axton around 4:45 p.m. on May 17 for the incident.

Captain Sandy Hines told rbs news now that the victim had been transported by a personal vehicle to a nearby hospital before being airlifted to another facility for further treatment.

Captain Hines confirmed deputies found evidence of a stabbing in a driveway, spoke to witnesses and collected evidence.

The incident stemmed from a domestic altercation between two men outside the residence, during which one man stabbed the other, according to Hines.

K-9 Zajo was deployed to search a wooded area behind the residence.

During the search, the suspect, Kenneth Uron Martin Jr., 40, was found hiding in the woods.

Martin was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Henry County Adult Detention Center.

He has been charged with malicious wounding in connection to the stabbing.

He is currently being held without bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
