HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A Martinsville Police Department vehicle was involved in a crash on May 17.

The collision happen at the intersection of Commonwealth Boulevard and Virginia Avenue in Henry County and it involved a black Kia Sportage and a Martinsville Police Ford Explorer.

Authorities said the officer was en route to assist the Henry County Sheriff’s Office with a reported fight in progress at Hollywood Cinema when the crash occurred.

The officer was transported to the hospital by the Henry County Department of Public Safety.

The extent of the officer’s injuries has not been released.

The Collinsville Volunteer Fire Department responded to assist with traffic control at the busy intersection, which was partially blocked for a time.

Henry County deputies reported that two teenagers were involved in the original altercation at the cinema.

The Virginia State Police is leading the investigation into the crash.
