COLLINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — A 16-year-old male has been taken into custody following a robbery at Infinity Tobacco and Vape Store #2, located at 2419 Virginia Avenue in Collinsville.
The incident occurred on May 28 at around 1:50 p.m. when a white male entered the store, kept one hand in his pocket—leading the clerk to believe he was armed—and demanded money.
“The clerk complied with what he said, gave him an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency, at which time he fled on foot,” Henry County Sheriff Wayne Davis told rbs news now at the scene.
Deputies were already in the area and responded within minutes.
A white male matching the description was quickly located hiding behind the store.
Sheriff Davis said a K9 unit was preparing to deploy when the suspect emerged from a concealed location and was taken into custody without incident.
The stolen cash was recovered at the scene.
Although no weapon was found, Davis said the investigation is ongoing and deputies are still working to determine whether the suspect was armed.
The suspect’s identity is being withheld due to his age.
The juvenile has been charged with robbery and concealment of identity.
He was transported to the W.W. Moore Juvenile Detention Facility in Danville, where he will remain in custody until his next court proceeding.
“This is a serious crime, and even though it involves a juvenile, we will hold him accountable,” Davis stated. “Discipline begins at home, and we encourage parents to be actively involved in their children’s lives.”
Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at 276-638-8751 or Crimestoppers at 276-632-7463.
