BASSETT, Va. (rbs news now) — A routine traffic stop turned into a pursuit and drug investigation on June 10 in Bassett, leaving one person behind bars and another still on the run.
According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy attempted to stop a green Ford Ranger pickup truck in the 1500 block of Stones Dairy Road around 4 p.m.
The driver failed to stop and continued at low speed before turning onto Jarrett Drive.
During the pursuit, the passenger door opened multiple times, indicating a possible attempt to flee, deputies said.
The Ford eventually stopped behind a residence in the 1000 block of Jarrett Drive.
The driver, 25-year-old Brandee Taylor Feazelle of Daniels Creek Road in Collinsville, exited the vehicle and fled on foot but was quickly apprehended.
The front seat passenger, James William Shaffer, escaped into nearby woods and remains at large.
Authorities said a third occupant also fled the scene but was detained and later released after it was determined they had no outstanding warrants.
A search of the vehicle found suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia, which have been sent to the Virginia Department of Forensic Science for analysis.
Feazelle was found to have active warrants and now faces multiple charges including:
- Possession of schedule I or II controlled substances
- Probation violation
- Failure to stop for law enforcement
- Loud exhaust
- Improper tread depth
She is currently being held at the Henry County Adult Detention Center without bond.
Shaffer is wanted on two counts of possession of a schedule I/II drug.
Deputies conducted a K-9 track in an effort to locate him, but the search was unsuccessful.
Anyone with information on Shaffer’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at 276-638-8751 or CrimeStoppers at 276-632-7463.
Tipsters may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,500.
