HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A Martinsville man has died following a crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV that occurred last week on A.L. Philpott Highway in Henry County.

The crash happened at approximately 8:20 p.m. on June 18, just east of G.W. Drive.

According to Virginia State Police, a 2018 Acura MDX was making a left turn out of the crossover and heading east on the highway when it was struck in the rear by a 2011 Honda CBR 1000RR traveling in the same direction at a high rate of speed.

The driver of the motorcycle, James William Johns, 58, was wearing a helmet and was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital with injuries.

He died from those injuries on June 22, state police announced on June 23.

The driver of the Acura was not injured.

No charges are pending at this time, and the crash remains under investigation.
