MARTINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — A local nonprofit that helps underrepresented entrepreneurs is looking to hire its first executive director to lead the organization into a new phase in Martinsville-Henry County.
The Minority Business Consortium (MBC), founded in 2019 as a grassroots initiative, provides technical assistance, mentorship, and essential resources to minority-owned businesses, according to a news release.
Now, with a $609,641 investment from The Harvest Foundation over the next three years, MBC is building its infrastructure and expanding its services to better support small business owners in the region.
“We believe that when we invest in people and their potential, our entire community benefits,” said DeWitt House, vice president of community investments at The Harvest Foundation. “Supporting the Minority Business Consortium aligns with Harvest’s mission to create a thriving community where everyone can envision a positive future.”
The release said MBC’s strategic goals for the coming years include increasing annual membership, offering a robust calendar of workshops and programming, and securing sustainable funding.
The organization also plans to enhance its internal operations by hiring administrative support alongside its first executive director.
MBC is seeking a leader with experience in nonprofit or association management, a passion for equity, and a strong commitment to economic development.
Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree, proven leadership and communication skills, and a dedication to inclusive community growth.
The release said the position includes a competitive salary and benefits package.
