MARTINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — A Patrick Springs man has been arrested in connection with two armed robberies that occurred within minutes of each other in Martinsville on June 24.

Officers responded to the first robbery at a business in the 600 block of East Church Street at 5:49 p.m.

The second occurred at 6:06 p.m. at a business in the 1100 block of South Memorial Boulevard.

In both cases, a white male suspect entered the establishments, threatened employees with a weapon, and demanded cash before fleeing in a red vehicle, according to police.

Using surveillance footage and data from Flock license plate recognition cameras, police said they identified the suspect vehicle.

The Patrick County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle at a residence on Spring Road in Patrick Springs.

Deputies arrested Alvin Hurley, 53, without incident.

He has been charged with two counts of armed robbery and is being held without bond at the Patrick County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
