MARTINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — A man wanted in connection with a neighborhood shooting on Massey Street has turned himself in to authorities, the Martinsville Police Department confirmed Sunday.
Devin Jamar Stockton surrendered at the Martinsville Police Department on June 29 and was taken into custody without incident. He faces six felony charges, including attempted murder, malicious wounding, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, discharging a firearm within city limits, and reckless handling of a firearm causing serious injury. He is being held without bond at the Martinsville City Jail.
The charges stem from a June 27 shooting in the 100 block of Massey Street. Officers responded to multiple reports of gunfire and located a male victim at SOVAH Martinsville Emergency Department with gunshot wounds to his lower body and several graze injuries. He was treated and later released.
Investigators say the shooting began with a verbal dispute between two neighbors, which escalated when one of them allegedly pulled a firearm and began shooting.
Officers collected evidence from the scene and executed a search warrant at 105 Massey Street, where additional evidence linked Stockton to the shooting.
The investigation remains active. Authorities are encouraging anyone with information to contact Detective Parnell at 276-638-5155 or the anonymous Crime Stoppers tip line at 276-63CRIME (276-632-7463). Tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward.
