HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A juvenile suspect has been arrested in connection with the June 30 armed robbery in the Walmart parking lot, authorities said in an update on July 9.

The robbery occurred around 6:30 p.m. when a group of juveniles walking through the parking lot at 976 Commonwealth Boulevard was approached by several young males in a blue-colored vehicle.

According to investigators, after a brief exchange, occupants of the vehicle brandished firearms and stole two backpacks from the juveniles before fleeing toward Virginia Avenue at a high rate of speed.

The stolen items included an iPhone 13, clothing, phone chargers, and cologne.

Surveillance footage from nearby businesses showed the suspects’ vehicle pulling up to the victims, followed by a brief interaction and a rapid departure from the scene.

The arrested juvenile is being held at the W.W. Moore Juvenile Detention Facility in Danville.

Authorities have not released the individual’s name due to their age.

This is an active investigation.

At around 6:30 p.m., deputies responded to a report that a group of juveniles had been approached by several young males in a blue-colored vehicle.

According to the victims, the suspects—whose faces were partially covered—brandished firearms and took two backpacks before fleeing toward Virginia Avenue at a high rate of speed.

Authorities said the stolen items included an iPhone 13, clothing, phone chargers, and cologne.

Surveillance footage from nearby businesses confirmed that the vehicle pulled up alongside the juveniles and then sped away moments later.

Investigators are reviewing the footage and working to identify those involved.

This is an active investigation.

HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — Authorities are investigating an alleged armed robbery that occurred in the parking lot of Walmart in Henry County on June 30.

According to Sheriff Wayne Davis, three individuals in a blue vehicle—armed with at least one firearm—robbed another group of individuals of their backpacks around 6:30 p.m.

Investigators believe the incident began earlier that evening at the Sheetz gas station on Virginia Avenue, where an initial confrontation between two groups occurred.

One group reportedly left the area on foot while the other drove to Walmart on Commonwealth Boulevard, where the robbery happened.

Sheriff Davis emphasized that, based on the information currently available, the event appears to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community.

However, Davis noted that details are still developing as investigators continue to gather information and speak with those involved.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact law enforcement.
