COLLINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — A Henry County man is in custody after barricading himself inside a mobile home that lead to a SWAT operation that involved chemical munitions and an armored vehicle breaching the front wall.
The incident unfolded on July 24 at Norwood Drive in Collinsville, following an earlier investigation into the suspected abuse and neglect of an 8-month-old child.
Around midnight, deputies responded to the home after a 9-1-1 call reported the injured infant.
“Potentially the child was bleeding and had possibly even been kicked,” said Sheriff Wayne Davis in a live interview with rbs news now at the scene.
Deputies worked alongside the Department of Social Services to ensure the child and other children in the home were transported to the hospital for evaluation.
All are now in protective custody.
The investigation led to felony child abuse and neglect charges against the infant’s parents, Nikki Angelina Walker and Chase Thomas Fielder, both 32.

Walker was taken into custody at the scene and is being held on a $4,000 secured bond.
Fielder fled before deputies arrived.
After searching for him throughout the day, investigators received a tip that Fielder had returned to the Norwood Drive residence.
Deputies responded shortly before 7 p.m. and made contact at the front door.
“He slammed the door on our deputies and began to barricade himself in the residence in an effort to not come out,” Sheriff Davis said.
Citing Fielder’s violent criminal history and escalating behavior, the sheriff’s office activated its SWAT team.

Before their arrival, deputies attempted to negotiate a peaceful surrender without success.
Once on scene, SWAT deployed chemical munitions and encountered extreme resistance due to the interior barricades.
“He had a mattress, multiple tables, couches, chairs—essentially everything he could pile behind the door to prevent our entry and to prevent being taken into custody,” Davis said. “Same with the back door—multiple tables, a bed, a washing machine.”
Traditional methods of entry failed.
That’s when the SWAT team used an armored vehicle to breach the front of the home.
“If we have a warrant for your arrest, you can put whatever you want in front of the door, but we were coming in—so we made our own door,” Davis said.
Fielder continued to resist even after the breach leading deputies to deploy additional chemical munitions.
He eventually exited the residence and was arrested.
In addition to the original felony abuse and neglect charge, Fielder now faces an additional charge of obstruction of justice.
He is being held without bond at the Henry County Adult Detention Center.
“The abuse of an innocent child is one of the most disturbing and unacceptable crimes we face. In Henry County, we have zero tolerance for those who harm the most vulnerable among us. Let this serve as a clear message: if you choose to violate the law, we will pursue you relentlessly, and we will bring you to justice,” the sheriff said.
Henry County Public Safety assisted in the operation to ensure the safety of both law enforcement officers and the suspect.
No injuries were reported during the standoff.
