RICHMOND, Va. (rbs news now) — Virginians will be able to shop tax-free on select items during the state’s annual 3-Day Sales Tax Holiday.
The holiday begins Friday, August 1 at 12:01 a.m. and ends Sunday, August 3 at 11:59 p.m.
During this period, qualifying school supplies, clothing, hurricane preparedness items, and energy-efficient products will be exempt from Virginia’s sales tax.
Items eligible for the tax exemption include:

- School supplies priced at $20 or less per item
- Clothing and footwear priced at $100 or less per item
- Portable generators priced at $1,000 or less
- Gas-powered chainsaws priced at $350 or less
- Chainsaw accessories and other storm-related items priced at $60 or less
- Energy Star and WaterSense Items like energy-efficient appliances and water-conserving devices for noncommercial home or personal use, priced at $2,500 or less per item
The tax holiday aims to help families and individuals save money while preparing for the school year and hurricane season.
