MARTINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — A fire broke out Wednesday morning at La Mexicana Market on East Church Street in Martinsville.

The call came in around 10:30 a.m. for a fire at 639 East Church Street, the location of the Mexican grocery store, meat market, and the former home of Papa John’s Pizza.

Units from Martinsville Fire & EMS, Collinsville Volunteer Fire Department, Henry County Public Safety, Martinsville Police Department, and Martinsville’s electric and public works departments responded to the scene.

Firefighters arriving on scene found smoke coming from the roof of the building.

The business was open at the time, but all occupants were safely evacuated.

Martinsville Fire Marshal Andy Powers said the business owner reported the fire may have started in the mechanical room, but no official cause has been determined as crews remained on scene investigating.

Fire officials said structural damage to the building was minimal, but content damage inside the business was significant.

No injuries were reported.
