COLLINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — A runaway 16-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl were taken into custody Wednesday after assaulting deputies in Collinsville.
Deputies responded to McDonald’s located at 2757 Virginia Avenue around 12 p.m. on August 6 after Iverson Hart Covington’s mother located him there with two juvenile females.
Covington had been reported missing after he was last seen at his residence on Riverview Court.
Authorities said Covington’s mother tried to convince him to return home, but after he refused, she called the sheriff’s office for help.
When deputies arrived, they tried to de-escalate the situation and asked Covington to leave with his mother.
Covington became agitated and violently assaulted both deputies, according to Sheriff Wayne Davis.
As they tried to place him under arrest, he continued resisting and acted aggressively.

During the incident, a 14-year-old girl with Covington interfered and assaulted one of the deputies.
Both juveniles were arrested and transported to juvenile intake.
While being transported, Covington damaged the interior of the patrol vehicle by chewing through a seatbelt, Sheriff Davis said.
Covington was charged with 2 felony counts of assault on law enforcement, misdemeanor obstruction of justice, and misdemeanor destruction of property.
The 14-year-old girl faces felony assault on law enforcement and misdemeanor obstruction of justice charges.
Both are being held at the W.W. Moore Juvenile Detention Center in Danville.
The investigation remains active.
