PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A driver was airlifted to a regional trauma center in serious condition after a crash Wednesday in Pittsylvania County.

Crews were dispatched to the crash on U.S. 29 North in front of the Pittsylvania County Pet Center at 12:07 p.m. on August 21.

One driver had to be extricated from their vehicle before being flown to the hospital, according to Blairs Fire and Rescue.

The other driver did not require emergency medical services, officials said.

A Facebook photo shared by Blairs Fire and Rescue appears to show two tractor trailers involved in a crash.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) issued an alert confirming that the incident involved a tractor trailer collision.

Responding agencies included Chatham Rescue Squad, Chatham Volunteer Fire Department, Blairs Fire and Rescue, Virginia State Police, Pittsylvania County Public Safety, VDOT, Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Department and other first responders.

Chatham Rescue Squad thanked Life-Guard for providing air medical transport and all responders for assisting with patient care, extrication, traffic control and creating a landing zone.
