MARTINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — The West Piedmont Planning District Commission (WPPDC) has announced the return of Michael Armbrister as its executive director.
The appointment coincides with a new executive management agreement that creates a partnership between WPPDC and Solutions That Empower People, Inc. (STEP), where Armbrister has served as chief executive officer.
Under the new arrangement, he will lead both organizations, focusing on affordable housing, childcare and transportation access, according to a news release.
“I’m excited to rejoin the strong team at West Piedmont PDC, and I value the opportunity to connect two of our region’s innovative organizations focused on strengthening our communities,” Armbrister said.

Armbrister previously held the role of executive director at WPPDC and also served in associate director and deputy director positions.
His career includes more than 11 years at the Mount Rogers Planning District Commission, leadership roles at two Virginia charitable clinics and teaching at Emory & Henry College.
The WPPDC serves Franklin, Henry, Patrick and Pittsylvania counties, the cities of Danville and Martinsville, and the Town of Rocky Mount.
