MARTINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — Martinsville Police announced September 15 that 34-year-old Jerod Montez Baker is behind bars.

Baker was arrested at about 11 p.m. September 14 in the parking lot of Avalon Arms Apartments located at 701 Corn Tassell Trail.

He was taken into custody without incident and is being held without bond in the Martinsville City Jail as the investigation continues.

Baker shot a 51-year-old man at the apartment complex on September 10 and the victim showed up at the Valero located at 1105 Brookdale Street, according to police.


UPDATE — September 11

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — Police are searching for a Martinsville man wanted in connection with a shooting that left another man hospitalized Wednesday night.

Officers responded around 8 p.m. September 10 to the Valero located at 1105 Brookdale Street.

Police say they found a 51-year-old man from Oak Ridge, N.C. suffering from a gunshot wound there.

The victim was first transported to a local hospital and later transferred to a Roanoke hospital, where he remains hospitalized, according to police.

Investigators determined that the victim had been shot at the Avalon Arms Apartments located at 701 Corn Tassell Trail, before arriving at the gas station.

Police have identified Jerod Montez Baker, 34, of Martinsville, as the suspect and have obtained a warrant for aggravated malicious wounding.

Anyone with information on Baker’s whereabouts or the incident is asked to contact Detective Steven Rogers at 276-403-5331 or Crime Stoppers at 276-632-7463.

Callers to Crime Stoppers may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,500.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — Martinsville police are investigating after a gunshot wound victim arrived at a local gas station Wednesday night.

Officers were called around 8 p.m. to the Valero gas station on Brookdale Street, where a person suffering from a gunshot wound showed up.

Acting Police Chief Chad Rhoads said authorities are working to determine what happened and where the shooting took place.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.

No other information was immediately released.
