ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. (rbs news now) — Two men are in custody after a high-speed pursuit involving gunfire, and a large-scale manhunt Thursday morning in Rockingham County.
At about 9:40 a.m. September 18, deputies on routine patrol near Gold Hill Road and Route 220 spotted a white Dodge Ram connected to local break-ins and containing a suspect with outstanding warrants.
When deputies tried to turn around, the pickup truck accelerated, forcing other motorists off the road while fleeing north on Route 220 at speeds exceeding 100 mph, authorities said.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol and Stoneville Police Department joined the pursuit.
Officers reported hearing five to six gunshots fired from the fleeing vehicle.
Deputies performed a precision immobilization technique to stop the truck.
No one was injured by the gunfire or the PIT maneuver, according to the sheriff’s office.
The driver, 30-year-old Timothy Lee Williams, was taken into custody at the scene.

The passenger, 32-year-old Michael Seth Chilton, fled on foot which lead to a perimeter being set up and CodeRED alert being sent to local residents.
The State Highway Patrol deployed a helicopter to assist in the search.
A Stoneville resident later told deputies Chilton was hiding near her property on Price Grange Road about two miles away.
The Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team, along with Eden Police K-9 officers, tracked and arrested him without incident.
Williams has been charged with felony flee and elude.
Chilton faces felony flee and elude and two counts of felony assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm.
Both are being held without bond at the Rockingham County Detention Facility and are scheduled to appear in District Court on October 1.
Chilton was also served with outstanding warrants out of Guilford County.
“In this day and time the worst thing you can hear as a Sheriff is someone attempting to do harm to a deputy, or any law enforcement officer, while performing their duties,” Sheriff Sam Page said. “Today was a success not just because of this cooperative effort and quick response, but also because nobody was hurt. I just thank God for that.”
Page thanked numerous local, state and neighboring Virginia agencies for their assistance, including the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police, NC State Highway Patrol and its air unit, and multiple local police departments and emergency services.
