HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A Henry County deputy is being recognized for her work both on and off the court.

Deputy Ashley Norton of the Henry County Sheriff’s Office has been inducted into the Ferrum College Sports Hall of Fame for her career in women’s basketball.

Norton, a 2010 Ferrum graduate from Collinsville, was a four-year starter and point guard for the Panthers and helped lead the team to the 2006–07 USA South title.

She scored 874 points during her career, with 336 assists — including a school-record 16 in one game — 156 rebounds, 94 steals and 14 blocks, according to officials.

Norton also set school records for three-pointers: eight in a single game and 71 in a season (2009–10).

She twice earned USA South Rookie of the Week honors and was named to the USA South All-Tournament Team and All-Conference Honorable Mention.

The college said Norton “lives by Ferrum’s motto: Not Self, But Others,” adding that she has served more than 13 years with the Sheriff’s Office, where she is now a school resource officer for Magna Vista High School.

She was formally inducted with eight other former student-athletes at a campus ceremony September 13 and recognized later that day during halftime of Ferrum’s home football game against Shaw University.

On Tuesday, September 23, the Henry County Board of Supervisors presented Norton with the county’s second-ever Henry County Headliner Award during its regular meeting.

The Sheriff’s Office said the award honors her recent Hall of Fame induction and her continuing service to the community.

“We’re proud to congratulate Deputy Norton on this tremendous honor and thank her for her dedication both on and off the court,” the Henry County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
