HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A 63-year-old Cascade man was arrested Saturday after deputies said he led them on a low-speed pursuit through Collinsville while driving recklessly.

According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, they got a call at about 4:40 p.m. on September 27 reporting a gray Toyota sedan swerving across Virginia Avenue near Walmart and nearly striking several vehicles.

Deputies located the Toyota near Stultz Road and saw it failing to stay in its lane.

They attempted to stop the driver, who continued onto Commonwealth Boulevard at speeds averaging around 35 miles per hour.

Because of the low speeds, deputies said they were able to position their vehicles to block the sedan.

The Toyota struck the rear of a deputy’s vehicle before coming to a stop near Chopstix on Commonwealth Boulevard, authorities said.

The driver, identified as Eric Williams, was taken into custody without incident.

No injuries were reported.

Williams is charged with felony eluding police, driving under the influence, driving without a license, failure to maintain lane and insufficient tire tread depth.

He is being held without bond at the Henry County Adult Detention Center.

The sheriff’s office thanked the citizen who reported the reckless driver, as well as the Martinsville Police Department for its assistance.
