ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. (rbs news now) — A Rockingham County school bus carrying 23 students ran off the road Friday morning, leaving two children with minor injuries.

The crash happened October 3 on Sardis Church Road in Madison.

According to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, a Huntsville Elementary School bus struck a guardrail after leaving the road.

Two students were transported to a local hospital for further evaluation, while the remaining students were examined by emergency personnel at the scene and cleared.

Parents of all students were contacted, and those who were not taken to the hospital were transported back to the school for additional assessment by nursing staff, officials said.

The Sheriff’s Office thanked Rockingham County EMS, Rockingham County 9-1-1 Communications, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Huntsville and Stokesdale fire departments, and Rockingham County Schools for their assistance in the response.
