PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — An emergency vehicle was struck Monday evening while assisting at the scene of a crash, according to early reports.

The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on U.S. Highway 29 northbound near Sycamore Creek Road in Gretna.

This marks the second time in less than a week that an emergency vehicle has been hit along the same highway in Pittsylvania County.

There is no word yet on injuries related to Monday’s crash.

On Friday, a Virginia State Police patrol vehicle was struck on U.S. 29 near Hurt while troopers assisted a disabled tractor-trailer, leaving one trooper hospitalized with serious injuries.

The Gretna Fire and EMS and the Hurt Volunteer Fire Department responded to both scenes.

Both departments shared reminders on social media over the weekend, highlighting the dangers first responders face while working along roadways.

“When you see flashing lights, move over and slow down,” Gretna Fire and EMS posted. “Your attention can save a life.”
