FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — Crews from multiple departments responded Tuesday night to a high-rise multi-family structure fire at the Bridgewater Pointe Condos in Franklin County.
Crews were dispatched October 14 to the scene on Booker T. Washington Highway after reports of a fire on the roof of the building.
Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed a working fire and began evacuating residents from the sixth floor as smoke and flames were visible from the roof area.
“Units arrived and saw fire on the roof, made access to the roof, and used extinguishers to knock it down,” Scruggs Volunteer Fire Department Chief Demsey Moore told The Smith Mountain Eagle. “Then they took water cannons up and used standpipe lines to put it out.”

No injuries have been reported, and the fire was contained to the roof area.
Responding units included Franklin County Fire and EMS, Scruggs Volunteer Fire Department, Westlake Fire Department, Burnt Chimney Fire Department, Moneta Volunteer Fire Department, Smith Mountain Lake Marine Fire Rescue, and Red Valley Rescue.
Crews remained on scene for several hours conducting overhaul and ventilation operations.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
