MARTINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — Three men have been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the August 12 shooting death of a Martinsville woman.

Martinsville Police said officers responded to the 500 block of Forest Street that night after receiving a report of a large disturbance.

When they arrived, officers found Crystal Galloway Jordan suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

She was transported to SOVAH Health Martinsville, where she later died from her injuries.

Investigators said their work revealed that a large group of individuals had conspired to confront and assault a smaller group of Martinsville residents.

When the group arrived on Forest Street, a violent altercation broke out, and firearms were discharged, resulting in Jordan’s death.

According to police, interviews with the 11 individuals previously arrested in the case led to the identification of the new suspects.

The investigation also traced back to an earlier altercation in the parking lot of Monogram Snacks Martinsville, which escalated into a larger fight later that night and led to the deadly shooting.

A criminal complaint states that Micah Aaron Holmes, 18, first shot Jordan in the shoulder and she fell.

Nashawn Lee Corbett, 21, then reportedly shot her multiple times while she was on the ground.

Kwaheim Zaquon Hairston, 20, attempted to fire again, but his gun jammed.

All three suspects fled the scene shortly after the incident.

Police said that neither Jordan nor the three suspects were involved in the original argument, and that Jordan may have been trying to stop the fight when she was shot.

In the early stages of the investigation, 11 people were charged with malicious wounding by mob.

Continued efforts by detectives later identified Holmes, Hairston, and Corbett as playing central roles in the homicide.

All three Danville residents are being held without bond.

“This was an extremely complex case with many people involved,” said Martinsville Acting Police Chief Chad Rhoads. “Our investigators worked tirelessly to solve this case. And also, this is a case where the community came forward with information that led to identifying the individuals involved in the attack.”

Police said additional arrests could follow as the investigation remains active.

The Danville Police Department, Virginia State Police, and the U.S. Marshals Service assisted in the investigation and arrests.
