MARTINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — Mulberry Creek Assisted Living will permanently close its doors on December 31, citing rising operational costs that have outpaced revenue, according to officials.
The assisted living facility, located at 400 Blue Ridge Street, currently houses 37 seniors.
Kissito Healthcare Vice President of Operations Mary Ferrell said residents and families were formally notified of the closure on October 22.
Ferrell explained that although the number of residents has increased in recent years, the growing costs of food, labor, and general operations have made it financially unsustainable to continue.
Facility administrators are now assisting every resident and family in locating other housing options, including providing a list of assisted living facilities across Virginia.

Residents are allowed to move out at any time before the December 31 deadline.
Employees affected by the closure will be offered positions at the neighboring Mulberry Creek Nursing & Rehab Center, along with paid training for certified nursing assistant licenses.
The announcement prompted some confusion online regarding the future of the adjoining Mulberry Creek Nursing & Rehab Center, but officials clarified that the nursing and rehabilitation facility will remain open and fully operational.
“We want to reassure our residents, families, staff, and community that Mulberry Creek Nursing & Rehab remains open and fully operational,” the facility said in a social media statement. “Our dedicated care team continues to provide the same compassionate, high-quality care that our residents and families have come to know and trust.”
