PATRICK COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — Three Cana residents were arrested after an incident in Ararat earlier this month that led to the recovery of a stolen ATV.

Deputies received information on October 9 about individuals believed to be in possession of a stolen Yamaha ATV.

The deputies located and detained Billy Roberts, 31, Brenda Hiatt, 36, and Roger Hiatt, 38; all of Carrollwood Mobile Home Park in Cana.

The ATV had been reported stolen just days earlier in Carroll County.

All three suspects were charged with felony possession of stolen property.

In addition, Billy Roberts and Roger Hiatt face grand larceny charges obtained by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.

“A tip received from a citizen, and later confirmed by a Carroll County Sheriff’s deputy, led us to recover the stolen property and solve this case,” Patrick County Sheriff Smith said in a news release dated October 10.

According to the sheriff’s office, Billy Roberts is being held on a $4,000 secured bond, Brenda Hiatt is being held on a $1,500 secured bond, and Roger Hiatt is being held without bond.

“Relationships with our citizens and our law enforcement partners are critical in solving crime,” Sheriff Smith said. “This is yet another example of how that model proves to be successful.”

The news release was originally written and sent on October 10, but due to a system glitch, was not delivered until the evening of October 22, according to Lt. Steve Austin of the Patrick County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, who confirmed the delay to rbs news now on October 23.
