DANVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — Robyn Brandon, reading specialist at Woodberry Hills Elementary School, has been named Danville Public Schools’ District Teacher of the Year.

Brandon, an eight-year teaching veteran, holds a bachelor’s degree from Old Dominion University and a master’s degree from Averett University.

She is endorsed in both English and gifted education.

Before joining DPS, Brandon began her teaching career as a Peace Corps teacher in Uganda.

She later taught English Language Arts at O.T. Bonner Middle School, where she also served as a literacy coach, before becoming a reading specialist at Woodberry Hills.

“Ms. Brandon’s impact is felt throughout Woodberry Hills Elementary,” her principal said. “As an inspirational educator, she provides children and staff with unique opportunities for growth academically and personally.”
