
AXTON, Va. (rbs news now) — The Henry County Sheriff’s Office has released new details in the fatal shooting that occurred late Tuesday on Sand Stone Court in Axton.
Deputies responded to the mobile home around 11:35 p.m. November 11 after receiving reports of a gunshot victim.
Upon arrival, they found 46-year-old Ronald W. McGugan suffering from a gunshot wound.
McGugan was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to investigators, the shooting followed an argument between McGugan and his brother, as well as other family members.
The Sheriff’s Office said it has consulted with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, and based on the evidence gathered so far, no charges will be filed in connection with the incident.
The shooting happened the same night deputies were managing a separate hours-long standoff in Bassett.

AXTON, Va. (rbs news now) — The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred late Tuesday on Sand Stone Court in Axton.
Captain Tim Compton said deputies were called to a mobile home around 11:30 p.m. on November 11 after an altercation between family members resulted in a shooting.
Sheriff Wayne Davis later confirmed to rbs news now that the incident involved two brothers who got into a lengthy dispute inside the residence with one fatally shooting the other.
Sheriff Davis said video surveillance inside the home captured the altercation, and investigators are consulting with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office to determine whether the shooting may have been in self-defense.
The suspect is in custody, and there is no threat to the community.
The fatal shooting happened while deputies were also managing an hours-long standoff in the Bassett area.
The Martinsville Police Department and Henry County Public Safety provided assistance at the scene.
