AXTON, Va. (rbs news now) — A fire destroyed a home in the Axton community of Henry County early Thursday morning.

Crews were called to the 1600 block of Birchwood Road around 1 a.m., and the scene was cleared by approximately 5:30 a.m.

“The home is a total loss, no injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Henry County Fire Marshal’s Office,” Assistant Fire Marshal Kevin Hendricks told rbs news now. “Red Cross was contacted for two displaced residents.”

Volunteer fire departments from Axton, Dyer Store, Ridgeway, and Horsepasture, along with Henry County Public Safety, responded to the initial overnight blaze.

Ridgeway Fire returned to the property around 12:45 p.m. Thursday after the fire reignited, Hendricks confirmed.
