
As winter weather moves into the region, numerous schools, government offices and local businesses across rbs news now’s coverage area announced closures and delays for Friday, December 5.
Education institutions:
- Martinsville City Public Schools will be closed. All after-school activities scheduled for Friday are cancelled.
- Patrick & Henry Community College will be closed. College officials said an update regarding the Friday evening performance of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical will be shared Friday afternoon.
- Henry County Public Schools will be closed for students and 10-month employees. Eleven- and twelve-month employees will work virtually. All Friday extracurricular activities and Saturday School are canceled, and families will receive updates from school staff regarding any weekend schedule changes.
- Danville Public Schools will be closed with a Code 1 designation. Teachers assigned small at-home learning tasks, and all after-school activities are canceled.
- Rockingham County Schools in North Carolina will operate on a remote learning day for students and staff. All before- and after-school activities are canceled, and child care services will not operate.
- Franklin County Public Schools will operate on a two-hour delay. Officials remind families to monitor announcements in case conditions worsen.
- Patrick County Public Schools will operate virtually. Families are encouraged to contact teachers with questions or concerns.
- Averett University’s Danville campus will open on a two-hour delay.
- Victory Baptist Academy & Daycare will be closed.
- Cheerful Chaps Daycare in Fieldale will also be closed.
- New College Institute in Martinsville will open at 10 a.m.
- Pittsylvania County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay. School officials said should conditions change, another announcement will be made.
Government:
- Pittsylvania County offices will open on a three-hour delay.
- The Henry County Courthouse will be closed. There will be no court in Henry County tomorrow.
- The Henry County Sheriff’s Office administrative offices will open at 10 a.m., weather permitting. Deputies will remain on patrol throughout the county and will continue responding to calls for service as usual.
- The Henry County administration building will open at 10 a.m., weather permitting.
Businesses:
- Bassett Physical Therapy will operate on a delayed schedule, opening at noon.
- Hollywood Cinema will be closed.
Community events:
- The Magna Vista High School Choral Department has rescheduled its winter performance to December 10 at 6 p.m. at MVHS, moving the event from its original December 5.
- The Luminaria Trail Walk in Danville has been canceled.
Residents across the region are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and use caution as winter weather approaches.
