PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A 16-year-old student was taken into custody Wednesday after a firearm was found on the campus of Dan River High School, according to the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said they got information on December 17 from the school’s administration about a firearm potentially being on school property.

The juvenile was safely taken into custody and removed from access to any weapons.

No injuries were reported.

Because the individual involved is a minor, the sheriff’s office said no name will be released.

The investigation remains active, with school resource officers and investigators continuing to review the incident.

The Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office said it is working with Commonwealth’s Attorney Bryan Haskins regarding potential charges.

Further updates will be provided as information becomes available, authorities said.
