MARTINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — A Martinsville City Public Schools bus driver has been charged following a pedestrian crash, according to a December 19 update by Captain Ben Peters of the Martinsville Police Department.

The crash occurred December 18 at the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and East Church Street.

Investigators determined that a 49-year-old Martinsville woman was struck by a school bus while crossing Cleveland Avenue at the intersection.

Martinsville Fire & EMS transported the woman to Sovah Health Martinsville, where she was treated for minor injuries, Captain Peters said.

Following an investigation into the circumstances of the crash, Martinsville Police charged the bus driver with failure to yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian at an intersection.

In the release, police reminded drivers to remain alert and to yield to pedestrians at crosswalks and intersections to help ensure the safety of all road users.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — A woman was injured Thursday afternoon after being struck by a school bus in Martinsville, police said.

According to Martinsville Police Department Captain Ben Peters, the crash occurred around 12:35 p.m. at the intersection of Church Street and Cleveland Avenue near Martinsville Middle School.

“It was a female adult,” Captain Peters told rbs news now, adding that her injuries appeared to be limited but required medical attention. “Minor injury; looks like to her leg.”

Martinsville Fire & EMS transported the woman to a local hospital for treatment, Peters said.

Police are still determining the circumstances surrounding the crash.

“That part is still under investigation,” Peters said. “We are looking to get video and things like that.”

Peters confirmed that police are working with school administrators as part of the investigation.
