PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — Authorities have identified human remains found last month on Climax Road as a Pittsylvania County man who disappeared in 2023, the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff’s office, working with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, confirmed the remains belong to Bobby John Palmer of the Climax Road area.

Palmer was 44 years old at the time he was reported missing in April 2023.

His next of kin has been notified.

Investigators said there is no indication of foul play or self-harm connected to Palmer’s death.

The circumstances surrounding the individual’s disappearance and recovery have been thoroughly reviewed.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner advised that because of the condition of the remains and the information available, the cause and manner of death could not be determined.

The case stems from Dec. 26, when a landowner in the 1200 block of Climax Road contacted authorities just before noon after finding what appeared to be human remains, according to an earlier release from the sheriff’s office.

The investigation is now considered complete, authorities said.

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — Authorities are investigating after suspected human remains were discovered Friday in Pittsylvania County.

Just before noon on December 26, the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a landowner in the 1200 block of Climax Road who reported finding what was believed to be human remains, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies responded to the scene and recovered partial remains.

The remains were sent to the medical examiner for examination and identification.

At this time, the identity of the remains is unknown.

The investigation remains ongoing.
