FIELDDALE, Va. (rbs news now) — A 14-year-old boy was shot on New Year’s Eve and sought help at a convenience store in Fieldale.

The call came in around 5:30 p.m. December 31 at C Mart #4, formerly known as Roberts Bestway, at the intersection of Dillons Fork Road and The Great Road.

“Just shortly ago, a 14-year-old male subject showed up here. He entered the store and asked the clerk to please summon medical help,” Sheriff Wayne Davis told rbs news now at the scene.

Deputies determined the teen had suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest.

“The shooting did not take place at Robert’s Bestway. The shooting actually took place in the 1700 block of The Great Road,” Sheriff Davis said, noting it is a short distance from the business.

According to Davis, investigators are in the early stages of the case and are interviewing multiple witnesses while preparing to execute a search warrant at a nearby residence.

Authorities believe they have identified a person of interest but are working to confirm details before releasing further information.

The sheriff said the teen drove himself to the store after being shot and was conscious and alert while speaking with investigators.

He was being prepared for air transport to a medical center for further treatment.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details are expected to be released as they become available.
